Hillsboro, Kan.--Spire volleyball saw a tough defeat against the Tabor College Bluejays with a final match score of 3-2. This final KCAC regular season match saw both teams consistently pushing their limits, but Tabor College ultimately clinched the victory.
The game commenced strongly for the Spires, capturing the first set 25-19. However, Tabor College rebounded in the second set, securing it with a score of 25-18. The third set witnessed the Spires once again taking the lead with a score of 25-22, demonstrating resilience and tactical prowess. Momentum shifted again in the fourth set as the Bluejays dominated with a score of 25-17, forcing a decisive fifth set. In a nail-biting ending, Tabor College edged out the victory with a 16-14 win in the fifth set.
Key players for the Spires made significant contributions throughout the afternoon. Senior
Chloe Byrd led the team with 15 kills, followed by
Emma Murphy with 9, and
Sammy Jo Kirk with 5. Defensively,
Sammy Jo Kirk also topped the blocks list with 2. The defensive efforts were bolstered by
Gabby Kurle, who impressively secured 27 digs. Additional defensive strengths came from
Ava Bojanski and
Morgan Herrera.
USM is currently standing at a record of 7-6 in KCAC play. At the conclusion of this evenings KCAC matches, the standings were set to kick-off post-season play beginning Tuesday, November 11th with the quarterfinal match for the #7 Spires taking place at Bethel College to take on the #2 seeded Bethel College Threshers with a game time yet to be set.Â
