Leavenworth, KS – The University of Saint Mary flag football team hosted Kansas Wesleyan University but ultimately fell to the Coyotes by a score of 38-15.
Kansas Wesleyan came out strong, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and adding another 18 in the second to take a commanding 32-0 lead into halftime.
The Spires found their footing in the second half. Early in the third quarter, Saint Mary marched down the field on a lengthy 13-play, 66-yard drive that culminated in a touchdown. The one-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 32-6. Kansas Wesleyan responded with another touchdown in the fourth quarter. However, the Spires continued to battle. With four minutes remaining in the game, Saint Mary scored another touchdown, this time with a successful one-point conversion pass from Kerisma Delgado, bringing the score to 38-13. The Spires added a late safety to make the final score 38-15.
Offensively, Ariana Rivera completed 20 of 32 passes for 193 yards and one touchdown for the Spires. London Reed also contributed through the air, completing 4 of 6 passes for 20 yards. On the ground, London Reed led the rushing attack with 35 yards on two carries, including a long of 27 yards. Trinity Scott added 34 rushing yards on three attempts. Kerisma Delgado was the leading receiver with five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Brooklin Hill had a team-high nine receptions for 37 yards, and Layla Mayes added two catches for 53 yards.
On defense, the Spires recorded one interception and a sack that resulted in a safety.

With this loss, the University of Saint Mary flag football team's overall record moves to 3-6. They will be back in action at home on Wednesday, April 9th, when they host William Woods University.
