The University of Saint Mary captured the attention of many in the 2025 NAIA U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic award lists.
Among the top was senior
Liam Neidig who claimed the title of 2025 NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. Neidig not only won the 1000 meters at the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, but also upheld a cumulative GPA of 3.98 while majoring in Applied Mathematics at USM. This marks the third time in program history that a male athlete from Saint Mary has been named to the prestigious honor of National Scholar Athlete of the Year for indoor track & field. Neidig joins USM alum Luke Skinner, who earned Track Athlete of the Year honors in both 2019 and 2021.
Head coach
Alstin Benton was all praise for his athlete stating, "Liam is a special individual across the board. It takes a unique, talented, and hard-working person to not only excel in their sports but to excel in the classroom in the way that Liam has. Winning a national championship is a feat in and of itself but to do that while shining in the classroom is amazing. Liam is an example of what we strive to be as a program and we have been blessed to have him as a member of our family."

Neidig was joined by fifteen of his teammates on a long list of talented athletes recognized as All-Academic Athletes for the 2025 NAIA Men's & Women's Track & Field, announced Monday by the USTFCCCA.
The Spire Women tallied ten student-athletes on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list, while the Spire Men had five.
Coach Benton was quick to give credit to the rest of his team by noting the incredible tasks and challenges each athlete takes on, "We are very proud of our Student-Athletes that made the All-Academic list this year. When students come to The University of Saint Mary it is more than running fast, jumping high and far or throwing far. It is about challenging yourself to be the best person you can be and these athletes exemplify those expectations."
The 2025 NAIA Track & Field USTFCCCA is awarded to nominated student-athletes who meet all academic criteria such as a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have completed at least two full semesters at their institutions.
