On day one of the St. Ambrose Tournament, the University of Saint Mary Spires dropped a tough match against Cumberland (TN), falling with a score of 3-1 in favor of Cumberland.
The Spires started strong, clinching the first set with a score of 25-21. Key performances by
MJ Stephens, who delivered 11 kills during the game, bolstered the Spires' efforts. However, Cumberland made a statement comeback, securing the second set at 25-19. The tension escalated as Cumberland maintained their momentum, winning the third and fourth sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-20, respectively.
Saige Hadley and
Chloe Byrd led the defensive efforts with a notable presence at the net, each contributing two blocks. Offensively,
Ava Bojanski and
Dakotah Garcia each recorded two aces. In terms of assists,
Addison Baker was pivotal with 22 assists, supported by
Morgan Herrera and
Daniela Rivera-Perez.
The Spires are set to face Viterbo University on day two of the weekend tournament tomorrow, Saturday, September 13
th at 10:00 a.m. and game two following at 2:00 p.m. Your Spire volleyball team currently sits at 7-4 on the season.
