The University of Saint Mary Spires Men's Soccer team fought a tough match against the Northwestern Red Raiders in Orange City, Iowa. The first half of the game saw Northwestern taking a quick lead, concluding the period with a score of 3-0 in their favor.
Throughout the match, Northwestern maintained control with goals by Daniel Lindahl, Bauti Marques, and Emerson Brazones. Bauti Marques also provided a pivotal game-winning goal and an assist, showcasing a strong offensive performance. The Spires managed to claw back with a goal by
Rylan Nowak, assisted by
Matias Allou, marking their only score of the game.
Defensively, both teams were relentless. The Spires' goalkeeping team, consisting of
Angel Jacinto and
Logan Stadelhofer, made a save each, battling hard against Northwestern's aggressive play. Edoardo Alessandrini from Northwestern saved two attempts, contributing significantly to their defensive success.
The game concluded with a final score of 3-1 in favor of Northwestern, bringing the Spires' current season record to 2-2-1. The Spires are now preparing to open up KCAC play with their next game scheduled on Wednesday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m., against Ottawa University at Berkel Memorial Stadium.
