Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Hannah VanCleave

Soccer Sails Past the Bulldogs

In a statement win, Spire men's soccer defeats the McPherson College Bulldogs 7-4 at home to finish out a busy homecoming weekend. The match marks the Spires first KCAC win.

USM opened the scoring early with Rylan Nowak netting the ball at 16:47, giving his team a confidence boost right out of the gates. The offensive aggression never let up, with the Spires taking 22 shots to the Bulldogs 13 throughout the entire 90 minutes. The shifty dynamics saw a number of players such as Robin Van Voorst contributing with two powerful goals. Daniel Castro, Isha Hughan (including the game-winning goal), and Alfie Scandle also added to the tally, rounding off a full team offensive display against the Bulldogs. Huge assists from Stefan Donovic and Matias Allou, who set up multiple goals, while Rylan Nowak, Jude Rodwell, and Zxyon Hendricks also contributed with key passes. Holding down the fort for Saint Mary was Angel Jacinto, who tallied five saves on the night and ensured USM never lost their lead.

The Spires have their sights set on October as they will face off against the Friends University Falcons on Wednesday, Oct. 1st at 7:30 p.m. again on their home field, Charles Berkel Memorial. The Spires currently hold a record of 3 wins, 4 losses, and 2 draws (1-2-1 in conference play), looking to continue their momentum.
