Spire women's soccer secured a 2-0 homecoming victory against the McPherson Bulldogs on a warm September evening at Berkel Memorial Stadium.
The first half of the game was a close contest between both the Spires and the Bulldogs. However, USM managed to take the lead just before the halftime whistle, thanks to aa exciting goal by freshman forward
Yaneila Romanlopez, assisted skillfully by
Jordan Tran. This put the score at 1-0 in favor of Saint Mary at the break. Defensively, the Spires were solid, with goalie
Avah Casarez ensuring the Bulldogs couldn't find their way to the net.
In the second half, the Spires maintained their momentum, and
Kate Erpelding widened the lead by scoring another goal from the corner, making it 2-0. The aggressive defensive line held strong for USM, and the Bulldogs struggled to get anything going offensively taking only 2 shots through 90 minutes. Â
This victory has improved the Spires' current season record to 4 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties, with an undefeated streak of 2-0-2 in conference play. Looking ahead, the Spires will stay on their home field to face the Friends University Falcons on Wednesday, October 1
st at 5:00 p.m.
