In a tough road match up, the USM Spires were defeated by the McPherson Bulldogs with a final score of 0-3 on Saturday, September 27th, at the Holman Fieldhouse in McPherson, Kansas.
The match kicked off with the Bulldogs setting a strong pace, leading to a 25-13 victory in the first set over the Spires. Despite the setback, the Spires fought in the next round, as the second set saw a closer competition with a score ending at 19-25 in favor of McPherson. In the third and final set, the Spires nearly bridged the gap, pushing the score to 21-25, but ultimately McPherson sealed their victory.
Chloe Byrd led her team with 12 kills and 4 blocks, showing her presence on the court.
Emma Scalise and
MJ Stephens contributed with 6 and 4 kills, respectively. On the defensive side,
Gabby Kurle and
Morgan Herrera both made crucial contributions with 7 digs each. Serving was a strong point for the Spires, with
Daniela Rivera-Perez scoring 3 aces, followed by
Ava Bojanski and
Addison Baker who each had 2.
The Spires push through to open up October and the near midway point of the season with their upcoming match against the Friends University Falcons, again on the road in Wichita Kansas on Wednesday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. Your Spire volleyball team currently holds a record of 12-6 overall and 2-1 in KCAC play.
