The University of Saint Mary Spires took part in the Sam Freas Invitational in Edmund, Oklahoma, marking a significant opening for their 2025 Men's Swimming & Diving season on October 3. The event showcased new talent and provided a platform for seasoned athletes to excel.
The Spires Men's team, competing among some tough opposition, secured 6th place with a commendable total of 71 points. Noteworthy performances included standout efforts from newcomers like
Brandon Kendall and
Ayden McFarren, who impressed in their collegiate debuts.
Experienced swimmer
Ian Lucas also received special recognition for his excellent performance at the invitational. His achievements in the pool were crucial for the Spires, adding to the team's overall score and morale.
Head Coach
David Bresser expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, highlighting the invitational's role in preparing the Spires for future challenges. Looking ahead, Coach Bresser remarked, "This really prepares us for our upcoming schedule, especially the next two meets. This is always a great way to get the season underway, and we learn so much with some of our swimmers being exposed to the best swimmers in D2."
The next challenge for the Spires is the Sunflower Showdown in Topeka, Kansas, scheduled for October 3. The team aims to build on their experiences and successes from the Sam Freas Invitational as they continue their season.
