Spires Women's Soccer Ends in Draw Against Stephens College Stars

In a closely contested match, the University of Saint Mary's women's soccer team drew 2-2 against the Stephens Stars at their home turf in Berkel Memorial Stadium.

The Spires got off to an impressive start, with striker Kate Erpelding finding the net early. Erpelding scored her first goal at 5:48 and doubled her tally at 22:51, both assisted by Rebecca Lord and Jaimie Piedra respectively, putting Saint Mary ahead 2-0. These early goals set a high pace, but Stephens responded before halftime. Moriah Carnahan cut the deficit with a goal at 41:01, bringing the score to 2-1 as the teams headed into halftime.

In the second period, Stephens maintained pressure and eventually found their equalizer through Ava Leininger at 65:23. Despite several attempts from both sides to clinch the win, strong defensive efforts, including key saves from Saint Mary's goalie Avah Casarez, kept the game level.

The draw leaves the Spires with a current season record of 1-1-1. The team's next game is scheduled for Saturday September 6th at Doane University.
