Kansas City, Mo.— Spire women's soccer fell 2-0 to Avila University (MO) on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Avila, with Bresette's goal at 3:37 providing the decisive score. Freshman Bre'Ella DeMaranville finished with 11 saves for the Spires.

Pond assisted on Bresette's opener before scoring at 25:26 off an assist from Desmarteau to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. DeMaranville made four first-half saves, beginning with a stop against Lasater at 5:32. A save on Hines' attempt at 36:51 helped keep the deficit at two goals entering halftime.

The Spires lone shot came early in the second half. Diana Aguilar delivered the Spires' only corner kick at 52:25, and Yaneila Romanlopez sent a header high 17 seconds later. USM did not put an attempt on target against the Eagle goalkeeper Sweeney, who completed the shutout without a save.

The Spires' goalkeeper then turned away Clark at 77:08 and Peregrine six seconds later, denying consecutive attempts as Avila continued to pressure the Spire defense.
