Concordia, Neb.—USM competed in their final regular season outing this weekend at the Concordia Twilight Meet hosted on the campus of the Concordia University Bulldogs on Friday afternoon, with a few lone Spires still competing for their ticket to the national meet.
To kick things off for the Spire women,
Nyla Nelson brought home 4
th place in the women's 100m sprint. Nyla would battle it out in the finals with a mark of 12.50 seconds.
Familiar face and national qualifier,
Deslyne Cooper, would bring home a top three finish in the women's 200m dash in Concordia. Des finished with an impressive 25.04 mark, earning 3
rd place about of the ten sprinter and amongst two other Spire teammates.
Nyla Nelson and
Kylee Sipes would round out the top ten in the 200m event. Nelson would earn 8
th place overall with a 27.02 finish while Sipes would come in 10
th with a 29.25 second finish.
On the men's side,
Logan Hammersmith would be the top finisher in the men's 200m dash with his notable 5
th place finish and 22.96 mark. Todd Hicks would be the next Spire to cross the finish line with a 23.17 second final time, taking home 6
th place out of the eleven sprinters on the weekend.
Landon Cox would finish in the top eight in the highly competitive event, taking home 8
th place with a 23.29 second finish.
Deslyne Cooper would again make her presence known with a 1
st place finish in the women's 400m sprint. Des finished with an impressive 55.90 second mark.
Kylee Sipes would finish in the top three as well with 1:07.41 final time.
Tyler Holmes would try his hand in the men's 400m sprint on Friday evening. The national qualifying long jumper would take home 6
th place overall out of thirteen competing athletes and finish with a final mark of 50.34. Todd Hicks would round out the top ten placements, earning 9
th overall with a final mark of 50.91.
Carly Holadia would be the top USM placer in the women's 1500m race. The national qualifier in the women's 800m brought home 5
th place in the gritty long-distance event and finishing with a 4:51.87 mark out of the nineteen competing athletes.
Liv Lohf would be the next Spire finisher coming in at 6
th place overall with a competitive 4:55.80 final time.
On the men's side,
Marte Hailey would finish 4
th overall out of twenty-three competitors. Marte would finish with a strong final mark of 3:57.04.
Austin Howell was up next for USM, coming in at 7
th overall. Howell would finish his outing in Concordia with a 4:03.03 mark.
The women's 5K would see three Spire athletes finishing in the top six in the grueling distance outing. The first of the USM athletes to finish would be Serenity Larson coming in 3
rd place overall with a 18:27.50 mark.
Ava Klassen would be next up in 4
th place with an impressive 19:29.11 final time across the finish and teammate
Mesa Casper would be the final Spire to cross in 6
th place overall, crossing the finish at 19:43.88.
In the men's 5K,
Camden Bachman would battle it out for the top spot but would just narrowly come in 2
nd place after a great outing with a final mark of 15.17.32 out of the twenty-four competing long-distance athletes. Jorge Perez would be the next Spire to place coming in 6
th overall with a mark of 15:36.64 with teammate
Zackary Zumwalt hot on his heels in 7
th place just a few seconds behind with a finish of 15:39.73.
Rylan Trout would round out the top ten placers coming in 10
th overall with a final time of 16:27.55.
Hope Crabtree gave it her all in the women's 100m hurdles, coming in 7
th place overall. Hope would finish with a speedy mark of 15.98 seconds.
Omarion Udell would finish in the top three in the men's 110m hurdles. The Spire record holder would cross the finish line with an eye-catching time of 14.48 seconds. EJ Dennis would also give a strong showing in the 110 hurdles with a 6
th place finish and a final time of 16.02 seconds.
Hope Crabtree would battle in the tough women's 400m hurdles. The national qualifier earned herself a strong 5
th place finish to go along with a final time of 1:06.26 in Concordia.
Two Spire athletes would place in the top five in the men's 400m hurdles. EJ Dennis would bring home a 4
th place finish and a mark of 56.95 seconds.
Landon Cox would be the next Spire to cross the line in speedy fashion with a 5
th place finish and a 1:03.85 final mark.
The USM men would dominate the 3000m Steeplechase with four athletes placing in the top ten.
James White would be the top placer for the Spires coming in 3
rd overall with a final time of 9:20.04.
Mohamed Elgossy would be next up at 4
th place overall out of twelve competitors, crossing the finish at a time of 9:30.22 for the speedy freshman.
Kenneth Howell would take his shot at the Steeple and it would pay off with a 7
th place finish and a 9:44.07 time.
Jonathan Eckstein would round out the top ten for USM with an 8
th place finish and a 10:07.61 time at the finish line.
The Spire men's 4x100m relay would earn a strong 4
th place finish at the Twilight meet. Courtney Anderson,
Logan Hammersmith,
Desmond Hudnall, and
Tyler Holmes would race to the finish with a mark of 44.71 seconds.
In the women's 4x400m relay, athletes
Carly Holadia,
Abigail White,
Liv Lohf, and
Mesa Casper would give it their all, finishing just behind Friends University in 3
rd place with a 4:17.17 final time.
The Spire men's 4x400 relay would have a thrilling fight to the finish.
Riley Gibbs, Tristian Rogers,
Daniel Craig, and
Karlos Humphreys would battle to the very end with a 2
nd place finish and an automatic national qualifying time of 3:12.30 to punch their ticket to the national meet next week in North Carolina.
The relay team's success would keep rolling into the men's 4x800m relay.
Austin Howell,
Jacson Cruse,
Marte Hailey, and
Lukas Hein would proudly earn 4
th place overall with a final time of 8:10.82.
Justin Johnston would also have a strong day in the field. The senior would earn himself a top ten finish in the men's high jump as he put together a quality outing with his final highest mark of 6-00.5.
Tyler Holmes would again take his place at the top of the leader board in the men's long jump, bringing home 1
st place overall. The KCAC champion and national qualifier would finish with a final mark of 7.21m in Nebraska.
Desmond Hudnall would also finish in the top four in the men's LJ, earning 4
th place with his longest mark of 6.68m.
Juan Washington was in a battle in the men's triple jump as he would walk away with a 2
nd place final. Juan would record his further jump at 13.82m. Fellow Spire Courtney Anderson would finish in the top five in Concordia, walking away with a 11.92m leap.
Robert Hennig would have a strong outing in the men's discus throw. Robert would earn himself 3
rd place overall with an impressive heave of 44.06m. Two more Spires would place in the top eight in the discus with
Nolan Norberto and
Jeremy Shreve bringing home 7
th and 8
th place, respectively. Nolan would record his longest throw at 40.74m while Jeremy would post a 39.39 final.
The Spire women's throwers would have themselves a day as well. Freshman
Emily Struckman brought home 7
th place overall with her longest mark posted at 43.44m.
KCAC Champion and national qualifier,
Keely Barnard would tally another top five finish this weekend in the javelin. Keely would post her longest throw in Nebraska at 40.13m.
The Spire men would have two athletes place in the top ten in the men's javelin throw.
Dawson Troth would finish strong in the 8
th place slot marking a 48.72m finish. Senior
Justin Johnston would round out the top ten posting a strong 44.85m longest mark.
Jeremy Shreve and
Logan Hammersmith would represent USM in the men's shot put unseeded division. Jeremy would add a 6
th place finish to his weekend with a 13.85m mark while Logan would bring home 10
th overall and a 9.60m finish. While in the seeded division,
Nolan Norberto would finish strong with a 9
th place final and a 14.52m tally.
