Houston Elevated to Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Leavenworth, Kan.— The University of Saint Mary basketball is proud to announce that Demarius Houston has been elevated to men's basketball head assistant coach, marking the next step in his continued growth within the program.

Houston first joined the Spires as a graduate transfer from Wiley University during the 2023-24 season, playing under head coach Troy Brown. He started all 30 games that season, averaging 9.0 points per game while shooting 32 percent from three-point range.

Following his playing career, Houston transitioned to the coaching staff, serving the past two seasons with the Spires as the second assistant under Brown. During that time, he has continued to make an incredible impact on the program through his knowledge of the game, commitment to player development and passion for the student-athlete experience.

"Demarius' hard work, knowledge and commitment to the men's basketball program over the past three seasons have earned him this opportunity," said head coach Troy Brown. "Our players are very fortunate to be coached by someone who is as passionate about their development, both on and off the court, as Demarius is. I'm excited to see him continue to grow in this role and make an even greater impact on our program."
