Leavenworth, Kan.— Southwestern's Forder scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute, and USM late pressure came up short in a 1-0 conference loss to the Moundbuilders this evening at Berkel Memorial Stadium. The Spires placed four of their five shots on goal, but two goalkeeper saves and two defensive clearances preserved the shutout.

Saint Mary created consecutive corner-kick opportunities in the opening half-hour before Southwestern broke through at 34:22. Forder produced the decisive goal on SWC's fourth shot of the match. Yaneila Romanlopez responded with the Spires' first shot on goal less than three minutes later, but goalkeeper Hernandez made the save to send USM into halftime trailing 1-0.

Goalkeeper Bre'Ella DeMaranville kept the Spires within striking distance throughout the second half. DeMaranville stopped Hazzard in the 51st and 59th minutes, then denied another Hazzard attempt in the 78th minute for the fifth and final save of a 90-minute performance. Southwestern finished with a 13-5 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Spires generated their strongest attacking stretch midway through the second half. Litzy Mendoza put an attempt on target in the 70th minute, but Holladay made a defensive save. Less than a minute later, Allena Collins directed a header on goal that Hernandez stopped. The Spires took four of its five shots after halftime and remained within one goal as the match entered its closing minutes.

Nir Darjee gave Saint Mary another chance in the 87th minute with a shot on target, but Brundege cleared it for the Moundbuilders second defensive save. Collins sent the Spires' final attempt wide moments later.
