The Saint Mary men's basketball team earned a 114-83 victory over Bethel on Saturday. It was the first time this season the Spires broke the 100 point mark in a game. The win improves the Spires to 7-6 on the season and 5-2 in KCAC play.
The game opened up ominously for Saint Mary as Bethel ran out to a 16-5 lead in the opening minutes. The Spires would have the game tied though by the 8:42 mark of the first half. A fast break dunk from Lavar McCullough gave Saint Mary their first lead, and they would never trail again in the contest. After taking a 10 point lead into halftime, the Spires broke out in the second half leading by as many as 37 points.
Demetrius Cady led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Cady finished six for seven from three point range. The Spires shot 58% from three as a team. Three other Spires scored in double figures. McCullough finished with 19 points. Brett Marsh added 17 and Teyvon Lundy scored 13 points. Lundy led the way in assists wth five. Darrious Denson and McCullough each added four assists. Marsh had a team high six rebounds.
Saint Mary will be back in action at Southwestern on Tuesday night at 8pm in Winfield, Kan. The Moundbuilders are in first place of the KCAC with a 12-1 record overall and a 6-1 record in KCAC play.
