Spires Take Road Loss at Tabor

The Saint Mary men's basketball team took their second KCAC loss of the season at Tabor on Wednesday by a final of 85-76. The loss drops the Spires to 6-6 on the season and 4-2 in KCAC play.

After opening the game with a 9-4 run, the Spires pushed out to a seven point lead later in the first half. Tabor rebounded to tie the game at 19-19 and the game would be tied five more times before halftime. In the final two minutes before halftime, the Spires used an 8-1 run to lead by seven at the break.

In the second half, Tabor had the game tied again with 15:59 on the clock, but Saint Mary pushed back out to a nine point lead with 9:41 left. From there the game flipped. Tabor would outscore Saint Mary 33-14 the rest of the way. The Spires trailed by just three points with two and half minutes left in the game, but Tabor would pull away in the final minutes for the 85-76 victory.

Saint Mary had four players score in double figures. Demetrius Cady and Teyvon Lundy each had 16 points to lead the team. Cady also had five assists. Lavar McCullough had 15 points and four rebounds. Brett Marsh added 12 points. The Spires shot 48% from the field but just 33% from three point range. They shot 92% from the free throw line.

The men's basketball team will be back in action at home on Saturday when they host Bethel at 5pm in the Ryan Sports Center. Bethel is 3-8 on the season and 2-4 in KCAC play.
