Women's Basketball Tops Southwestern for 11th Straight Win

The Saint Mary women's basketball team continued to roll towards the end of the regular season as they topped Southwestern 52-47 for their 11th straight win on Thursday night. The Spires are now 17-11 on the season and 15-6 in KCAC play as they reside in third place of the KCAC Standings with one game left in the regular season.

The win didn't come without difficulty. After Saint Mary jumped out to a seven point lead by the end of the first quarter, the Spires were held to just four points in the second quarter. It was their lowest point total in any quarter this season. Saint Mary rebounded to outscore the Moundbuilders 20-9 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth for the five point victory.

Candy De Los Reyes led all scorers in the game wtih 14 points. Ashley Hinkle also scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Imani White pulled down a team high 12 rebounds. Kelsey Switzer forced a game high five steals.

Saint Mary will close out the regular season on Saturday at 5pm. It will be Senior Night for the Spires as they host Bethany. The Swedes are the last team to beat the Spires this season when they bested Saint Mary 89-81 on Jan. 12 in Lindsborg. With a win, Saint Mary will finish the regular season in third place of the KCAC.
