The Saint Mary softball team dropped two games at Avila on Tuesday. The Spires fell 3-2 and 6-0. Saint Mary is now 2-5-1 on the season.
In the 3-2 loss, Samantha Torres took the start in the pitching circle for the Spires. Avila would get a run in the second and two more in the third off Torres. Carrie Lee entered to pitch in the third inning and finished the game. Lee allowed no runs and just two hits in four innings pitched.
Saint Mary took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single from Alana Renshaw. Lee lifted a sacrifice fly to score Torres in the sixth to bring the Spires within a run. The Spires were able to get a two out base runner in the seventh on a single by Kaila Trowbridge, but they could not plate a run.
Lee would start the second game for the Spires as well, but Avila would finally get to her with four runs over the first two innings. The Spires would be held to just two hits in the game, both by Hannah Gradillas.
The softball team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Concordia. The double header is scheduled to begin at 1pm. Concordia is 4-1 on the season.
