Saint Mary softball earned a double header split with Concrodia on Saturday. The Spires were swept on Saturday by #17 Grand View. Saint Mary is now 3-8-1 on the season.
The Spires dropped the first game of the weekend 3-0. Carrie Lee pitched five innings and allowed three runs, one earned while striking out six and walking just two. Samantha Torres pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Saint Mary had seven hits in the game despite not scoring a run. Tycee Coplan led the way with three hits in four at bats.
Four runs in the bottom of the third inning kickstarted the Spires in a 7-2 win over Concordia in game two on Saturday. Saint Mary scored six runs on eight hits. Alana Renshaw and Torres each had two hits. Kaila Trowbridge and Renshaw each had two RBI. Lee started and pitched five more innings allowing just one run on two hits. Torres followed with two more innings also allowing one run on two hits.
Grand View proved to be too much for the Spires on Sunday. Hannah Gradillas had the Spires' only hit in the first game as they fell 12-3. The Spires jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game, but Grand View would score seven runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game. Maddison Carr had two hits and an RBI for the Spires. Nicole DeSimone was a perfect two for two and drove in two runs.
Saint Mary will be back in action in the Friends Tournament beginning on Friday. The first game of the tourney will be at 2pm against Southwestern Christian.
