Softball Earns KCAC Split in Double Header with Sterling

The Saint Mary softball team hosted Sterling in a KCAC double header on Saturday. Sterling took game one 2-1 and Saint Mary would win game two 8-0. The Spires are now 11-20 overall and 4-3 in KCAC play.

Carrie Lee started and pitched six and one third innings allowing just two runs on six hits. Lee struck out six and walked none. Sterling would finally get to Lee in the seventh. Saint Mary led 1-0 headed into the final inning, but two Sterling runs gave them the 2-1 lead. The Spires were silent at the plate in the bottom of the inning. Saint Mary had seven hits in the loss. Alana Renshaw and Nicole DeSimone each had two. DeSimone had a double.

In game two, the Spires turned in a complete effort. Samantha Torres, Abagail Gonzales, and Lee combined to shut out the Warriors. The offense turned in eight runs on eight hits. Kaila Trowbridge had two hits and stole a base. Lee, DeSimone, and Torres each had two RBI. The Spires scored three in the second and four in the third before tallying another run in the fourth. The game was stopped by run spread after the fifth.

Saint Mary will be back in action on Tuesday in Salina in a double header at Kansas Wesleyan beginning at 2pm.
