The Saint Mary men's basketball team won their fourth straight game on Saturday beating Bethany 78-62. The win moved the Spires into second place in the KCAC standings with a 13-7 record in conference play. Saint Mary sits in a three way tie with Oklahoma Wesleyan and Kansas Wesleyan with two games left in regular season play.
A dominant first half paved the way for Saint Mary. The Spires led by as many as 17 points in the first half before settling for a 13 point lead at halftime. The Swedes had overcome a significant first half deficit in the Ryan Sports Center earlier this season against Saint Mary, but the same story would not be repeated. Bethany got as close as nine points in the second half but trailed by as many as 20 points late in the game.
Brett Marsh led all scorers in the game with 18 points. Marsh also had six rebounds and two steals. Teyvon Lundy added 12 points and four assists while Demetrius Cady had nine points and four assists. Kenneth Banks led Saint Mary in rebounds with seven. The Spires shot 44% from the field and the three point line in the win.
The men's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday at McPherson. The game is scheduled for 8pm. Saint Mary topped the Bulldogs 89-77 in the Ryan Sports Center earlier this season. McPherson is 9-19 on the season and 6-14 in KCAC play.
