The Saint Mary softball team earned a double header split at MidAmerica Nazarene on Friday night. The Spires dropped the first game 12-4 but bounced back for a 4-1 victory in the second game. Saint Mary is now 5-13 on the season.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. They would go on to add two more runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before scoring four more in the sixth to take the 12-4 victory. Paige Stewart, Katlyn Schiefen, and Abagail Gonzales all pitched in the loss. Offensively, the Spires managed four runs on nine hits. Cassidy Harbert and Julissa Serrano led the way with two hits each. Kaila Trowbridge had two RBI.
The Spires scored three times in the third inning of the second game to take a 3-0 lead. Samantha Torres, Hailey Reece, and Cassidy Harbert each had RBI singles in the inning. Torres, Harbert, and Lindsey Fishman each finished with two hits. Torres had a double. Torres also tossed seven innings allowing one run on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked one as the Spires took the 4-1 victory.
Saint Mary will be back in action on Wednesday at Concordia in Nebraska. The double header is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
