Spires Fall To Threshers On The Road

NEWTON, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary football team fell 48-3 to a stifling Bethel College team on Saturday afternoon, on the road.

The Spires are now 0-10 overall and 0-9 in the KCAC.

After a scoreless first quarter, Bethel scored on a one-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead. After a three-and-out by the Spires, the Threshers would connect on another touchdown to take a 14-0 lead.

Saint Mary saw three straight drives end in punts, before CJ Erwin connected on a 26-yard field goal. Bethel had added another two touchdowns in the quarter and took a 27-3 lead at halftime.

The Spires tried to get some drives together in the second half, but Bethel was able to stop them. The Threshers added another 21 points in the second half to come out with the win.

Troy Temmink led the passing attack with 128 yards on 17-of-40 passing. Matthew Graham rushed for 70 yards on 28 carries and Fred Daughtry had 71 yards on six receptions.

The Spires return to Berkel Memorial Stadium on Nov. 16 for a game against Southwestern College, for Senior Day.
