LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team lost another tough battle with Peru State Tuesday night inside the Ryan Sports Center, falling 69-45.
The Spires drop to 0-3 overall on the season.
The first quarter was close as Peru State grabbed an 11-7 lead in the first four minutes. The Bobcats would extend it to 18-10 before Danielle Cassady connected on two straight buckets to trim the deficit to four at 18-14 to end the period. Saint Mary would fall behind in the second quarter as they shot 3-for-19 from the floor. Peru State started to pull away with four minutes left in the half – going on a 17-0 run to end the half and lead 42-24.
Peru State would hold on to a double-digit lead through most of the second half and came out with the win.
Cassady (15) and Macy Walker (14) each posted double-figures for the Spires, and also grabbed four rebounds apiece. Kaylie Simonds had three rebounds and tied for the team lead with two assists.

The Spires continue their long home stand as they host (RV) Embry-Riddle University (Ariz.) on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
