KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team took on Baker University in a neutral site game at the KC Urban Youth Academy Wednesday afternoon, where the Spires came up short to the Wildcats 14-8. Saint Mary fell behind early, but started to chip away at the lead late before the Wildcats added a late rally to hold off the Spires.
Baker got out to a 7-0 lead after five innings over Saint Mary before the Spires started to chip at the lead. Saint Mary would post a four spot in the sixth inning starting with a three-run triple from Peyton Garvin with one out. David Ramirez would knock him in with two outs as Baker led 7-4. Both teams traded a pair of runs each in the next inning.
Daunte Freeman hit his first home run of the season – a two-run shot to left field on a 1-1 count. The Wildcats would take a 14-6 lead in the eighth inning before holding off the Spires in the final inning. Saint Mary grabbed two more runs in the game as Garvin and Damian Lomeli scored on a single from Alexis Ramos.
Daulton East took the loss on the mound, while Dalton Dultmeier earned the win for Baker.
