Baseball Comes Up Short Against Sterling

STERLING, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary baseball team dropped in game one of their three game series at Sterling Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1. The Spires had an uncharacteristic day at the plate, as they finished with four hits on the day.

The Spires are now 7-13 overall and 5-9 KCAC.

GAME FLOW
After a quiet first few innings, Saint Mary turned things around after a single to third hit by Alex Guevara-Moya. Matt Ladd would follow with a hit past second to advance the runner. The Spires got on the board after a sacrifice bunt was put down by Bryan Fuentes. The score was 1-1 going into the bottom of the third. The Warriors responded with two runs to put them up 3-1 and held the Spires scoreless the rest of the way.

Mason Schimmel took the win on the mound for Sterling, and Adrian Cardenas took the loss on the mound for Saint Mary.

Guevara-Moya went 1-for-3 and had one RBI. Cardenas pitched eight innings and had four strikeouts.

WHATS AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
Saint Mary will finish the three game road series with a doubleheader tomorrow at Sterling. Game one starts at 1:00 pm.
