STERLING, Kan – The University of Saint Mary baseball team's offense had a tough outing on Sunday as runs were hard to come by. The Spires fell in two games to Sterling College by scored of 8-0 and 7-2.
The Spires are now 7-15 overall and 5-9 in the KCAC.
In game one, Sterling got on the board first in the third inning. The Spires would fall behind 3-0 after the fourth inning, but the Spires had a chance to score in the fifth. Alexis Ramos reached after getting hit by a pitch before Alex Guevara-Moya singled up the middle. Saint Mary had men on first and second with two outs, but were unable to cash in.
Sterling would add five more runs in the sixth inning and held Saint Mary to one hit in the game. Easton Barnes took the loss on the mound, while Guevara-Moya added the lone hit.
In game two, Saint Mary took a 2-0 advantage after three innings of play. Matt Ladd would score both times, first on a sacrifice fly ball by David Ramirez in the first inning and an RBI single in the third inning from Daunte Freeman.
The Warriors offense then broke out in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings adding all their seven runs. Saint Mary was unable to grasp anymore offense as the Warriors hung on.
Ladd led the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Matt Weis was hit with the loss on the mound.
