Baseball Falls To Panthers

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team fell in the final game of a series with York College today, 7-6. The game was a makeup game from February.

Saint Mary is now 11-22 overall and 8-18 in the KCAC on the season.

Bryan Fuentes broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning after doubling to center field, which scored Will Gering. Alexis Ramos later hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to score Peyton Garvin, giving the Spires a 2-0 lead. Fuentes then scored on a wild pitch by York to keep the scoring threat alive.

York would tag Matt Weis for two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Weis settled into a rhythm and escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth as the Spires led 3-2. The Panthers would climb back into the game however, as they took a 6-3 lead after scoring four runs in the seventh inning.

Saint Mary would come back and tie the game at six in the bottom half as Fuentes hit a double to score three runs on the play. Fuentes would be tagged out to end the inning though as he tried to stretch a double into a triple. York would tack on one run in the ninth to take a 7-6 lead and hold on in the bottom half to secure the win.

Fuentes led the Spires' offense with three hits and four RBI, while Daulton East took the loss on the mound.
