Baseball Slips Late To Bethany Monday

LINDSBORG, KS. – The University of Saint Mary Baseball team slipped to Bethany College Monday afternoon after a ninth inning rally by the Swedes. The final score was 4-3. This game completed their three game series that was scheduled in February.

The Spires are now 11-23 overall and 8-19 KCAC.

GAME FLOW
The game was all defense until the fourth inning when the Swedes put the first run of the game on the board and would add another run in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Peyton Garvin reached base on a walk and then Bryan Fuentes laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Garvin into scoring position. Damian Lomeli advanced him further after a single to left field. Garvin then scored after Lomeli was caught stealing second base.

With two outs in the eighth inning, the Swedes pitcher walked two consecutive batters. A base hit by Garvin and an error allowed the Spires to put up two more runs to take a 3-2 lead. Bethany was able to answer in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win Monday afternoon.

Cohl Bohannan took the win on the mound for Bethany. Garvin took the loss on the mound for Saint Mary.

Garvin and Lomeli both went 2-for-3 at the plate.
