ATCHISON, Kan. – After dropping three of four games in the Joplin Open in Joplin, Mo. this past weekend, the University of Saint Mary baseball team fell 10-1 to Benedictine College Tuesday afternoon. The Spires hung around with the Ravens, but a big seventh inning for Benedictine led the Ravens to the win.
Saint Mary is now 1-10 overall on the season.
Benedictine grabbed a 2-0 lead after two innings of play. The Spires offense struggled to get things going in the first six innings. However, the seventh inning would play key for both teams. Saint Mary trailed 3-0 before Bryan Fuentes singled to score Adrian Garcia with two outs, to cut into the Ravens lead.
Benedictine would get out of the inning and capitalized in a big way in the bottom half. BC scored seven straight runs in the frame to take a 10-1 advantage. USM left one runner on base in the final two innings and the Ravens came out with the win.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Fuentes led the team with two hits and an RBI.
- Benedictine outhit the Spires 12-4 in the game.
- Yanthony Navarro, Johnny Vasquez, Steele Sadler and Garcia combined for five strikeouts.
