Leavenworth, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's soccer team returned to action for their first spring game of the year, battlling Benedictine College at home Wednesday night. The Spires were unable to find their offense as they fell 2-0.
The Spires now sit at 0-1-1 overall.
Both teams exchanged possessions battling defensively. Benedictine was able to control much of the offensive possession, but struggled to find an open shot against the Spires as goalkeeper Blake Kuehl was able to make some stops.
The Spires struggled to find their offense, but kept up with their strong defense with great saves. The Spires seemed to finally make a push offensively by a shot missed from Roshod Nembhard. With just 3:28 to go in the first half Benedictine's Luis Alanis scored a goal - assisted by JJ Johannsen, 1-0.
The Spires defense locked down early in the match, but the Ravens were able to find an opportunity with 25 minutes left in the second half gaining their lead by two, 2-0. The Spires tried to make one last push, but were unable to capitalize as the Ravens came out with the win.
Sabino Lozano had three total shots in the game, while Kuehl led the goalkeeper crew with three saves.
