Kansas City, Kan- The Saint Mary softball team swept York college today in their doubleheader at KCK Community College, winning 8-0 in six innings and 5-4.
The Spires are now 9-16 overall and 4-5 in the KCAC.
The first game was a defensive battle as the game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth due to the lights out pitching from both sides. The Spires got the offense rolling as the broke the deadlock with a bases loaded walk and an RBI single from Maria Howard. Then in the bottom of the 6th the Spires mercy ruled York College scoring six runs, three of which came from an Allyson Stolte bases clearing double.
In the second game the Spires picked up right where they left off scoring four runs in the first inning, taking a commanding 4-1 lead. The Spires then added another run in the 3rd amazing their biggest lead of the game. The pitching for the Spires was dominant all day and was highlighted when Mariela Tinoco went in to pitch with two runners on, ending the inning and getting the Spires out of the jam. Saint Mary would finish the game strong and winning by a score of 5-4.
