Leavenworth, KS- The University of Saint Mary baseball team struggled against Kansas Wesleyan Thursday afternoon at home, falling 17-7.
Saint Mary is now 3-21 overall and 3-12 in the KCAC.
The Coyotes came out and fired first in the top of the first to score two runs, 2-0. The Spires capitalized in the bottom of the first to score one run thanks to an RBI double by Antonio Valentin to score Steele Sadler, 2-1. The Coyotes rallied up three more runs against the Spires to extend their lead by four, 5-1. The Spires looked to chip away and scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit by two, 5-3. The Coyotes seemed to click in the top of the fifth and scored six runs against the Spires, 11-3.
The Spires looked for a comeback and were able to earn four runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a couple of hits and RBIs, 11-7. The Coyotes were able to add a couple more runs and extended their lead against Saint Mary. The Spires looked for some key hits but were unsuccessful and fell, 17-7.
Oscar Osorio and Valentin lead the offense with two hits each.
