Spires Press Late, but Fall to Coyotes 1-0

Salina, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team played Kansas Wesleyan University on Wednesday night, resulting in a 1-0 loss. The Spire's overall record is 1-9-1 and 1-4-1 in conference play, heading into Saturday's matchup against Tabor College.

Saint Mary and Kansas Wesleyan started strong defensively as both were held scoreless in the first half. Maea Ploetz had three key saves with the score tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.

The Coyotes began the second half on the attack, taking multiple shots as one found the back of the net just ten minutes into the half. As time dwindled, the Spires pressed hard, trying to take advantage of set pieces to create scoring opportunities t and tie things up. Nanako Hallier took a shot with two minutes left in the game that sailed high. The clock ran out on the Spires as the game resulted in a 0-1 loss.

"We had a good game plan going in, and they executed it perfectly," said Head Coach Justin Seever. " We pressed hard the last twenty minutes and had a couple of free kicks with really good opportunities late."

The Spires will be on the road this weekend to play Tabor College at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Hillsboro, Kansas.
