Spires Defeated On Senior Day

Leavenworth, KS- The University of Saint Mary Falg Football team took on the Kansas Weslyan Universty Coyotes on a cold and rainy day, losing the game 34-12.

The Spires kept it a close contest in the first half, giving up only one touchdown in the opening quarter and scoring one of their own. Defensive back Jerrica Johnson made a great effort to come down with an interception right before the end of the first. Capitalizing on Johnson's interception USM was able to drive down the field and scored to take the lead 12-7 with seven minutes left in the half. The Coyotes did score twice later in the second quarter leaving the Spires with a 20-12 deficit at halftime.
In the second half, the Spires were unable to stop the KWU offense as they posted two more touchdowns in the third quarter. The Spires worked hard to try and cut the Coyotes lead but were unable to find the end zone in the second half. The final quarter did not see any scoring for either team.

The Spires next contest will be at 5 p.m. on Wednesday against the Ottawa Universty Braves.
