Leavenworth, KS- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team was unable to hold on in their doubleheader against the nationally ranked Tabor College Blue Jays.
Game 1
The Spires were locked in a back and forth battle in the first contest as the lead changed multiple times throughout the game. In only the second inning Saint Mary jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by a Jack Knutson two-run homer over the right-field fence. Starter Yanthony Navarro held the Blue Jays offense at bay, giving up only two runs and striking out four throughout seven innings. It was then up to the bullpen to close out the game for the Spires but after a six-run eighth inning for Tabor, Saint Mary found themselves down 9-7. The Spires were unable to get those two runs back and lost the first game 10-7. Knutson led the Spires in offense in the first game going two for three with a run, RBI, and two walks.
Game 2
The Spires once again got out to an early lead putting up three runs in the third after stringing together a couple of base hits to go up 3-1. Starter Drake Pingel went the complete game for Saint Mary, recording nine strikeouts and giving up five runs. The Spires were once again not able to hold onto the lead, after an extended sixth inning that saw three runs for the Blue Jays. The Spires were led offensively by shortstop Alex Guevara who went three for one with a stolen base and a walk.

The Spires will finish their sereis at 1 p.m. on Sunday at home against Tabor College.
