Winfield, KS- The University of Saint Mary baseball team won both games in their doubleheader against Southwestern College Saturday.
Game 1
The Spires would take an early lead in game one as Alex Guevara led off the game with a solo home run to left-center, making it 1-0. That score would stand until the sixth inning as Saint Mary ended the deadlock after a couple of strategically placed base hits to go ahead 3-0. After the sixth, the Spire would score one in the eighth and three in the ninth, making the score 7-0.
Starter Yanthony Navarro would pitch the complete nine innings striking out 11, giving up four total hits, and allowing one run in the outing. The Spires were led on offense by Kruz Wahwahsuck who had two hits on three and had two RBIs, two walks, and a run. Gilbert Rondon also helped out Saint Mary by going two for five with two runs and an RBI.
Game 2
Saint Mary would continue the offensive pressure from game one by putting up four runs in the first two innings. These scored runs were highlighted by a Wahwahsuck two-run home run to center field in the first. The Spires would score one more in the fourth inning on a Guevara base hit, making the score 6-0.
Drake Pingel started the game for Saint Mary and went all seven innings striking out six batters and giving up only four runs. Guevara would lead the Spires on offense for the second game as well by going three for four with two RBIs and two runs.

The Spires will conclude their weekend series against Southwestern College at 1 p.m. Sunday in Winfield, Kansas.
