Winfield, Ks- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team completed the sweep against Southwestern College, winning 11-7.
The Spires would get on the board first in the opening inning off a Kruz Wahwahsuck single into left field, giving them the early 1-0 lead. Then in the second inning, Saint Mary would take control of the game scoring eight runs, and was capped off by a three-run home run hit by Aidan Hartig. In the fifth, Southwestern would begin to chip away at the big lead and score four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Saint Mary bullpen would help secure the win by allowing just four hits after starter Ryan Bailes came out in the fifth. USM would extend their lead in the seventh after a wild pitch that helped score Samuel Yancey. After getting one more run in the top half of the ninth, the Spires would close out the game and won 11-7. On offense, the Spires were led by Hartig, who went two for five with three RBIs and two runs.
