Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Softball hosted the Bethany Swedes for their final home doubleheader of the year. Before the game, seniors Hazel Faz, Maria Howard, Madisyn Thompson, Alexis Ray, and Shelby Mohler were honored for their dedication and hard work as Saint Mary Student-Athletes.
Game 1
The Spires would give up two runs in the second inning, and found themselves down 2-0 early in game one. Starter Maria Howard went five innings for the Spires, giving up six hits and three runs. In the third, the Spires would get on the board after Hazel Faz hit a solo home run to left field, putting them within one.
A sacrifice fly in the fourth inning would extend the Swede's lead by one after a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Alexis Ray hit a triple that would drive in two runs and tie the game up at 3-3.
The Spires would give two more runs in the top half of the seventh and were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, and lost game one 5-3. Ray led the Spires on offense in the first game, going two for three with two RBIs.
Game 2
Saint Mary would score first in the second inning after Alexis Ray grounded out to first base, which allowed Isabelle McCarty to score from third. Ray would help build the Spire's lead in the fourth inning again by hitting a sacrifice fly that drove in one run.
Later in the inning, Hazel Faz would also hit a sacrifice fly, driving in another run, to make the score 3-0. The Spires would get one last run in the sixth inning after Ray hit another sacrifice fly to drive in the final run.
Shelby Mohler started game two and threw a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits to help the Spires get the win. Offensively, Ray drove in three runs in game two, and Allyson Dias went one for two with two runs.

The Spires will take on Avila University for their regular-season finale at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri.
