Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary baseball team hosted the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles Friday for a doubleheader to open the weekend series.
Game 1
Starter Yanthony Navarro would go all nine innings for the Spires giving up four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts on the day. The Eagles would get one run in the top half of the first on a ground ball for a 643 double play a run scored. Oklahoma Wesleyan would score again in the third after an RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield and a single to right field, making the score 3-0
Sebastian Lewis would lead off the sixth inning for the Spires and get on after an error by the shortstop. Alex Guevara would get walked to advance Lewis to second base. A sacrifice bunt would advance both runners over to another base with one out remaining in the inning. After a ground ball to third and a strikeout, both runners would be left on base to end the inning.
The Eagles would get one more running the eighth after a fielder's choice with runners on first and third to make the score 4-0. The Spires would attempt to come back but were unable to do so with the previous score mentioned being the final.
Game 2
The Spires would go down early in game two after the Eagles had a seven-run first inning. Oklahoma Wesleyan would get a run in the fourth on a solo home run and get two runs in the top half of the fifth after an RBI double to make it 10-0. Starter Peyton Garvin would go five innings giving up ten and striking out three for the Spires.
Kawika Hubbell would lead off the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Then Adian Hartig came up and hit a two-run home run, scoring Hubbell and making it 10-2. These would be the only runs of the game for Saint Mary, with the final score of game two being 10-2.
