Wichita, Ks- The University of Saint Mary Softball team split with Friends University in a doubleheader Wednesday.
Game 1
The Spires were down early in the first contest on Wednesday after giving up six runs in the first three innings. They would get one run back in the fourth when Allie Cox hit a single to left field that scored Victoria Gutierrez, making the score 6-1. Cox would also come into pitch, throwing three innings and giving up one run on two hits. The Spires would give up one run in the fifth and two in the second, making the final score 9-1. Cox led the team offensively, going one for one with an RBI.
Game 2
Saint Mary would go down early in game two when a two-run home run made it 2-0 after the first inning. In the third, Autumn Giodano drove in two runs with a single to left field to give the Spires a 3-2 lead. Starter Maria Howard would throw five innings and strike out four after giving up two early runs to help Saint Mary hold onto the lead. The Spires would extend their lead to two runs after Abigail Kudym hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh. Giodano would lead the Spires on offense, going two for three with two RBIs.

The Spires will welcome Ottawa University for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
