Fulton, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team traveled to Fulton, Missouri, Wednesday night for a mid-week matchup against William Woods University, losing 4-0. The Spires are now 0-5 heading into the weekend, where they face Southwestern College to open KCAC play.
The Spires pressed early to start the first half after a shot from Morgan Young. Shortly after that, William Woods got on the board and took a 1-0 lead. Over the next twenty minutes, the Owls scored two more times, one on a penalty kick, making the score 3-0. The Spire created more chances as time dwindled in the first have but were unable to break through for a goal and entered halftime down 3-0.
Saint Mary continued the offensive pressure in the second half getting multiple shots off in the first fifteen minutes. The Owls countered this by scoring their final goal of the day, giving them a 4-0 lead with twenty minutes left in the contest. Low on time, Grace Runyan took a shot that nearly got the Spires on the board, but the shot was saved, making the final score 4-0. Young led Saint Mary on offense with three total shots on the day.
