Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team lost 4-1 to Southwestern College on Saturday. The Spire's overall record is now 0-6 and 0-1 in conference play, heading into Wednesday's home matchup against McPherson College.
Saint Mary was on the defensive from the start as the Builders took multiple shots, one eventually made its way through, giving them the lead. The rest of the first half was quiet as Saint Mary entered halftime down 1-0. The second half showed promise for the Spires as Katy St. Martin found the back of the net just after halftime, tying the score at 1-1.
The Builders would respond later in the second half seventy minutes in, scoring twice in ten minutes, which put Southwestern up 3-1. Shots by Elizabeth Serago and St. Martin did not find the back of the net as the Builders continued to expand their lead. With six minutes left, the Builders found the net again and killed any momentum the Spires had previously built up, making the final score 4-1. Saint Mary had three total shots, with St. Martin taking two of them.
