Men's Basketball Comes Close but Falls to Tabor 69-52

Hillsboro, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team played against Tabor College, resulting in a 69-52 loss. The Spires are now 5-13 overall and drop to 1-11 in conference play.

Saint Mary started the first half with a three-pointer by Joey Schultz and a layup by Deshaud St. Martin to give the Spires the early 5-2 lead. The Blue Jays, however, responded with an 8-0 run to slow the Spire momentum. Saint Mary did claw back mid-way through the half, thanks to a three by Darius Pottard to make the score 24-19. With under five minutes to go in the half, both teams went back and forth offensively, but Tabor still held a 33-27 lead heading into halftime.

Schultz again got things going for the Spires offensively as he hit a jumper to open the half. St. Martin and Cam Southern followed with back-to-back shots for the Spires to make the score 38-34 in favor of Tabor. The Blue Jays started to go on a run midway through the half as USM struggled to find any offensive rhythm. A Braylen Duncan three-pointer pulled USM within nine points with under five minutes go in the game, but a late 5-0 run by the Blue Jays cemented a 69-52 win for them. St. Martin led the way for Saint Mary, scoring 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
