Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team took on Southwestern College on Thursday, resulting in a win. The Spires's overall record is now 5-7-5 and 4-5-3 In conference play.
In the first half of the match, the Spires came out red hot after a goal by Anthony Rangel, with the assist coming from Oscar Sandoval, making the score 1-0 in favor of the Spires.
The Saint Mary defense held strong for most of the first half, giving Southwestern no time to get shots. Goalie Alec Scharff held off the Builders with multiple saves in the early goings of the half.
Later, a penalty kick from Romario Harding gave the Spires a 2-0 lead. Southwestern got their first goal during the final minutes, making it 2-1 heading into the break.
Both teams had chances to add to the scoring to start the second half, but no shots found the back of the net. In the 68th minute of play, Rangel made it a 3-1 game, with the assist coming from Alejandro Ramos.
Southwestern scored to again come within one goal of the Spires with the score 3-2. With five minutes remaining, Romario Harding got fouled in the box, leading to a penalty kick to make the final score 4-2.
