Mitchell, S.D.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team traveled to take on the Dakota Wesleyan, resulting in a 71-67 loss. The Spires are now 2-1 on the year.
Saint Mary found themselves down by seven points early to make it an 11-4 game. South Dakota continued to hold on to all of the momentum, extending the lead to 11 with ten minutes left in the half. Tre Alexander, Joey Schultz, and Deahaud St. Martin hit shots as time ran out, and went into the break trailing 45-32.
As the second half began, Saint Mary looked to make a comeback. A made layup by Johnson helped the Spires cut the lead down to four. Two more shots by Alexander helped cut the Tigers lead down to one with eight minutes left in the game.
More points from Johnson gave the Spies their first lead of the game at 55-54. The newfound momentum from Saint Mary allowed them to extend their lead by seven, making the game 63-56. The Tigers made a three-pointer to cut into the Spire lead and eventually took it back with three minutes left.
Kaeden Bonner tied the game back up once again at 67-67 for the Spires. Dakota Wesleyan then made two free throws to end the game with a score of 71-69. Deshaud St. Martin ended the game with 20 points, and Bryce Johnson with 12 rebounds.
