Baseball Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Against Oklahoma Wesleyan

Bartlesville, Okla.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played Oklahoma Wesleyan for a doubleheader to open a weekend series against the Eagles, resulting in a 7-1 loss and 13-3 loss. The Spires are now 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Game one

Starter Cale Fields held the Eagles scoreless in the first two innings. Oklahoma Wesleyan struck first with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third. The Spires were not able to get runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings, while the Eagles built a 6-0 lead. A leadoff single from Jordan McClellan gave the Spires some much-needed momentum to start the sixth inning. In the following at-bat, Bryce Turner hit a double to right center and drove in McClellan to get Saint Mary on the board. However, the inning came to a close after a double play got the Eagles out of a jam with the score 6-1. Saint Mary gave up one more run in the bottom of the eighth, making the final score 7-1 in favor of Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Game Two

The Spires got on the board with two runs in the first inning, Caleb McClellan scored on an error by the Eagle's first baseman, and later in the inning, a ground ball from Jack Knutson drove in another. Oklahoma Wesleyan got one run back in the bottom half of the first from an RBI single to make the score 2-1 in favor of Saint Mary. After a scoreless second inning, the Eagles scored eight runs in two innings, building a 9-2 lead over the Spires. Bryce Turner drove in the last run of the day for Saint Mary with an RBI single to center field. The Eagles put up four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, bringing the final score to 13-3.
