Bartlesville, Okla.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team concluded their series against the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles, resulting in a 17-2 loss. The Spires are now 8-12 overall and 2-5 in the KCAC.
Caleb McClellan opened the game with a leadoff homerun to give the Spires a 1-0 lead. Later that inning, a bad throw on a double steal allowed Bryce Turner to take home, giving Saint Mary a two-run lead. The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring via a sacrifice fly, cutting the Spire's lead in half.
Oklahoma Wesleyan took the lead in the second inning after another sacrifice fly and two RBI singles. Saint Mary could not keep up with the offensive output of the Eagles, giving up eight runs over the third and four innings, making the score 12-2. The Spires threatened to drive in more runs in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out but were unable to get any runs across the plate. Oklahoma Wesleyan had a five-run bottom half of the fifth, extending their lead to 17-2. McClellan led the Spires at the plate, going three for four with an RBI and a run scored.
