Ottawa, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team took on the Ottawa Braves for a mid-week conference matchup on Tuesday, resulting in an 11-5 loss. The Spires are now 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the KCAC.
Saint Mary took a quick lead in the top of the first inning with a single from Noah Parra that drove in two runs. The Spires got another run in the second after an RBI double hit by Caleb McClellan, making the score 3-0. Ottawa responded in the bottom half of the inning by driving in four runs on four hits and took a one-run lead. Gilbert Rondon took the lead back from the Braves in the third inning with an RBI single to left field that scored two runs and made the score 5-4.
The Braves got two runs back in the bottom of the third after a fielder's choice and an RBI single to left gave Ottawa a 6-5 lead. Saint Mary threatened to tie the game up in the seventh two runners on and one out. However, a strikeout and groundout ended the Spire's chances of scoring. Ottawa drove in two more runs in the bottom half of the same inning and three runs in the eighth, extending their lead to six runs. Parra led the team on offense, going two for four at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored.
