Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played a doubleheader against Friends University on Friday, resulting in a 12-0 loss in game one and an 11-2 loss in game two. The team is now 8-15 overall and 2-8 in the KCAC.
Game One
The game started slow for Saint Mary as the Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the first inning. The second inning featured the Falcons extending their lead to 9-0 as they continued through the batting order. Saint Mary threatened to get runs on the board in the third inning. With runners on first and second with one out, the Spires were unable to drive in any runs. The Spires struggled to get things going offensively as Friends eventually won the game, scoring three more runs to secure a 12-0 win.
Game Two
Friends struck first again to begin game two of the doubleheader, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. The Spires, however, responded with a two-run second inning to tie things up. Brendan Roop scored on an error by the pitcher, which led to Gilbert Rondon hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in Noah Parra. These, unfortunately, were the only runs that USM scored as Friends ran away with the 11-2 win.
